Personal information” is information about an individual that allows that person to be identified. For example, personal information may include a person’s name, contact information (home address and telephone number, email address), date of birth, and information relating to their use of the services offered on the site.

 

To whom does this policy apply?

 

 This Policy applies to personal information provided to Skema Canada by individuals and, as the case may be, to confidential or sensitive information provided to Skema Canada in the course of its mission and activities by representatives of any company, organization, association, or government service (hereinafter collectively referred to as “your Information”).

Please note that by providing Information to Skema Canada, you are deemed to accept the terms of this Policy unconditionally. Therefore, you must read this Policy. If you do not agree with any aspect of our Policy, please do not provide Skema Canada with your Information.

In what context is my information collected, and for what purposes?

Skema Canada’s use of your information for general administrative communications

 

Skema Canada collects your information only to the extent necessary to fulfill its mission.

Specifically, Skema Canada may use your information, including your name and email address, to contact you for administrative communications:

  • Inform you of new features offered on the site, as applicable;
  • Inform you of updates to the site or to this policy;
  • Obtain your comments or suggestions regarding our services.

In all cases, Skema Canada will obtain your prior consent before sending such communications. You can request the withdrawal of your consent at any time after each of its communications. In such cases, your consent will be withdrawn promptly and by ten (10) days following receipt of any such request.

Skema Canada takes such communications on its behalf or its partners in compliance with all requirements set forth here.

How is my information protected? 

 

 Skema Canada has implemented various technological and administrative measures to ensure the integrity, security, and confidentiality of your information. These measures are designed to prevent the theft, unauthorized reproduction, modification, use, consultation, and disclosure of your personal information. Skema Canada, through its Internet provider, performs regular backups of its computer systems, and its Site is secured using state-of-the-art technologies recognized in the industry, including data encryption via the SSL/TLS (HTTPS) protocol.

From an administrative standpoint, only authorized Skema Canada personnel may access your information, and then only for the purposes stated here or the services offered on the Site. Agreements are also signed between Skema Canada and its employees, subcontractors, and partners to ensure that your information is used in a manner consistent with this policy and any applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

However, since no computer system is infallible, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

 

How long do we keep my information?

 

 Skema Canada will retain your information only as long as it is necessary to provide you with the information described in section 2a) of this policy.

In addition, your information will be deleted within a period of 30 to 90 days following Skema Canada’s discovery of reasonable grounds to believe that your business, organization, association, or other entity is no longer in operation and that certain critical information contained therein is or has become inaccurate (e.g., all reasonable attempts to contact you in this regard have been unsuccessful, bankruptcy of your business has been publicly announced, etc.).

Your information will also be deleted if Skema Canada has reasonable grounds to believe that you, your company, organization, or association has been convicted of a criminal charge or has failed to comply with any of the material terms and conditions set out in the Site’s Terms of Use.

Your information will also be deleted within ten (10) days of receipt of your request.

You can still retain information for statistical analysis purposes, but in no way identifies you or provides access to any other personal information about you.

 

Do you use log files and cookies?

When you visit the Site, we may collect information such as your IP address, the name of your Internet Service Provider (ISP), your browser, the website from which you are visiting us, the pages of the Site you see, and in what order, the date and duration of your visit, and other information about your computer’s operating system, language settings, and general demographic information. This information is aggregated and anonymous and does not identify you specifically.

However, please note that this data may be used to identify you if combined with other personal information you provide to us. This information is not shared with third parties and is used solely by Skema Canada and, as the case may be, its partners for the purposes set forth herein and in accordance herewith. Please be assured, however, that any individually identifiable information linked to this data will never be used, without your explicit permission, in a manner different from that indicated here.

Cookies
Skema Canada uses cookies. A cookie is a small text file containing a unique identification number transferred from the site to your computer’s hard drive. Cookies make it possible to identify users of the Site distinctly and to track certain of their activities on the Site. Cookies are used solely to improve the Site’s quality, for example, to obtain statistics on the number of visitors to the Site and its functionalities, or to provide users with a better browsing experience, for example, by memorizing their choices during a previous visit. 

The two types of cookies used on the Site are described below:

  • “Session cookies”: These are used to maintain a “session state” and remain only for your use of the Site. Session Cookies expire when you close your browser or have not visited the platform for a certain period. Session Cookies are necessary for the optimal operation of the platform and are not used to identify you personally.
  • “Permanent cookies”: These cookies permanently store a unique code on your computer’s or smart device’s hard drive to identify you as an individual user. Permanent cookies do not store personal information. You can identify permanent cookies by consulting your browser’s cookie directory. Please note that permanent cookies are not required for the site’s operation but may enhance your browsing experience.

Skema Canada collects personal information using cookies in accordance with this policy. These files cannot be used to access your computer.

Skema Canada also uses the “Google Analytics demographic and interest reports” feature to collect demographic information about site users’ interests. This data, which is strictly depersonalized and anonymous, is used to better tailor the site’s content to its users and is in no way linked to any information (name, address, email address, telephone number, etc.) that would allow a user to be identified, subject to the user’s express consent.

Cookies are a common practice, and many major sites use them to better serve their customers. Most browsers are designed to accept cookies, but users can modify their settings to refuse them. If you choose to turn off these cookies, you will still be able to access information on the site.
